Botany Manor, the relaxing exploration-puzzle game from Balloon Studios, has received a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that is available now on the Nintendo eShop.

What's new in the Switch 2 Edition

The Switch 2 version delivers two concrete technical improvements over the original Switch release. Resolution climbs from 720p to 1080p, and the framerate doubles from 30fps to 60fps. For a game built around unhurried exploration of a detailed Victorian manor and its grounds, those gains should make a noticeable difference to the overall sense of immersion and visual clarity.

About the game

Botany Manor is developed by English independent studio Balloon Studios and published by Whitethorn Games. It is the debut game from Balloon Studios, a studio founded by Laure De Mey, who previously worked at the award-winning ustwo games on Assemble with Care and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure.

Set in 1890, players assume the role of Arabella Greene, a retired botanist and inheritor of a Somerset manor who is undertaking research on plants in preparation for publishing a book about the world's "Forgotten Flora". Players complete point-and-click puzzles across several chapters by growing one or more plants. The plants in the game have magical qualities that respond to certain behaviours, such as light or temperature, with the player changing environmental conditions to allow the plants to bloom.

The manor's gardens are as full of clues as its interior rooms.

Clues are scattered throughout the manor in the form of botanical posters, newspapers, letters, paintings, and postcards. Room by room, the game also uncovers Arabella's backstory and the challenges she faced as a woman navigating her scientific career.

The game was originally announced at a Nintendo Indie World event in November 2022 and launched on 9 April 2024 for Nintendo Switch, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Reception

According to review aggregator Metacritic, Botany Manor received "generally favorable" reviews. OpenCritic assessed that the game was recommended by 91% of critics. On Steam, it holds a "Very Positive" rating from 94% of user reviews.

Where to buy

The Switch 2 Edition is out now on the Nintendo eShop at $24.99. Existing Switch owners can grab the upgrade pack for $3.99. For PC players, the game is also available on Steam and other storefronts.
