Final Fantasy VII Revelation was the headline announcement of Summer Game Fest 2026. Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage on June 5, 2026 to reveal the third and final chapter of the FF7 Remake trilogy, confirming a Spring 2027 simultaneous launch across every major platform. Here is a breakdown of every significant detail confirmed so far.
The Highwind Changes Everything
The most dramatic structural shift in Revelation is that the Highwind airship is available early in the game - and with it, the entire world map opens up immediately. Speaking to Denfaminico Gamer (translation via DeepL), Hamaguchi explained that unlike Rebirth, where areas unlocked one by one, players in Revelation are free to fly almost anywhere from the moment they obtain the airship.
The game features a controllable Highwind, and players will be able to parachute from the ship directly onto the map - a first for the trilogy.
The main story still follows a predetermined sequence, but side content is largely freeform. Hamaguchi noted that certain story-critical WEAPONS must be fought in order, but optional WEAPONs can be tackled at any point - even if the player will likely be under-levelled for the attempt.
Side Content Scale and Difficulty Spread
Hamaguchi described side content volume as "at least as much as in the previous game," and said difficulty will vary sharply between adjacent areas. Rather than encouraging players to fully clear a region before moving on - a common completionist pattern in Rebirth - Revelation is designed around players dipping in and out of zones as they grow stronger.
He acknowledged that even internal development playthroughs required "a considerable amount of time to see all the content," and that attempting all side elements makes it nearly impossible to advance the main story at pace.

Platform Availability - A Historic Day One
| Platform | Day One? |
|---|---|
| PS5 | Yes |
| Xbox Series X|S | Yes |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Yes |
| PC (Steam / Epic / Xbox PC) | Yes |
Revelation is the first main Final Fantasy game available at launch on Xbox platforms since Final Fantasy XV in 2016, and the first on a Nintendo console at launch since Final Fantasy VI in 1994. This is a notable shift from how the trilogy started, as Remake and Rebirth were closely associated with PlayStation at launch, with other platforms receiving the games later.
New Voice Actor for Sephiroth
One of the most-discussed post-announcement details is the recasting of Sephiroth's English voice. Tyler Hoechlin, known for Superman & Lois, voiced Sephiroth across Remake and Rebirth, but has been replaced by Critical Role's Travis Willingham for the final instalment after Hoechlin was unable to record VO for the villain this time around.
Willingham joins his fellow Critical Role member Matt Mercer - who voices the newly playable Vincent Valentine - on the English cast.
More Zack, New FITS System, and Knights of the Round
Director Hamaguchi confirmed that Zack Fair will appear in Revelation with more screen time than in Rebirth, and that the timeline arc will be explored as part of his story.
The game will also feature a new system called FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear), in which playable characters can equip special gear that alters their appearance and grants new skills and abilities drawn from classic Final Fantasy classes such as Warrior or Black Mage.
Hamaguchi also confirmed that the Knights of the Round summon is in development, with the team aiming to make it "worthy of the epicness" of the original.
Save Data Bonuses
Players with save data from either previous game will unlock early bonuses: Remake Intergrade save data grants the Chocobo and Moogle Summon Materia set, while Rebirth save data unlocks the Phoenix Summon Materia earlier in the game.
Pricing
Final Fantasy VII Revelation does not yet have a confirmed RRP, but the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection - a great way to catch up on the series' roots - is available now from €5.93 via SmartCDKeys.

The Bottom Line
Revelation is shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in the Remake trilogy: a fully open world from hour one, a scale that dwarfs Rebirth, and a simultaneous multiplatform launch that finally brings the series to Xbox and Switch 2 players on day one. The Sephiroth recast is a genuine wildcard, but Willingham is a seasoned voice actor with deep franchise ties through Critical Role. Spring 2027 cannot come soon enough.
